A Room of Your Own Book Club: Breaking Faith Book Chat
This... so proud!! Last Friday, November 22nd at the Lillian H. Smith Branch of the Toronto Public Library, I was lucky enough to speak with 60+ beautiful, intelligent and caring young women - all secondary school students of the Toronto District School Board who participate in monthly meetings of Room of Your Own Book Club. The event was attended by Dr Karen Wang youth inpatient psychiatrist at Sunnybrook Hospital, who spoke with the girls about PTSD, anxiety and other teen mental health issues, much like the ones which Faith suffered in the novel. Jaqueline & Sierra from Skylark Children Youth & Family Services of Toronto also spoke about services available should the girls require them. I was amazed at how the guest speakers threaded the descriptions of services in their talk, as they would have been beneficial to Faith had she sought them out! A special thank you goes to Tanya Lee for inviting me to speak with the girls and spend a brilliant day chatting with them about Breaking Faith. Thanks as well to Emma Rodgers, Marketing and Promotions Coordinator at Second Story Press.
