Parents: How to avoid the dreaded 'summer slide' - get 'em reading with these gorgeous n
So summer is just around the corner and with it comes days in the sun, on the beach or around the campfire – but it is really important to keep kids reading throughout July and August to avoid the dreaded ‘Summer Slide’ – and that is that they risk losing all the great literacy skills and gains that they made through the school year, but at the same time you want reading to be lighter, breezier and fun, so here we have some great Canadian Kidlit suggestions to keep your kids and teens reading through J and A. Above are some incredibly beautiful picture books for you and your child to enjoy (remember..., read with your child at least 20 minutes every day!)
Pictured previously are middle grade and young adult titles, equally gorgeous and equally readable - and yes... adults can enjoy reading them, too!!
All of the books featured here have had honourable mentions on either the CBC Canadian Kids and YA Books to Look for in Spring 2019 or the Quill&Quire Kidlit Spring review, which is a leading literary magazine. A Special thank you goes to the Kate and Ian at Different Drummer Books on Locust St. in Burlington for providing me with these gorgeous new titles.
